  • Secondly, it has more than 4 rooms and can accommodate more than 20 guests.

Types of Hotel Business Licenses

Before submitting your application, is to know what type of license your business requires.

There are 4 different types of hotel business licenses in Thailand, as follows:

  1. The license is for hotels with a capacity of 50 rooms with a minimum size of at least eight square meters per room.
  2. The license is for hotels that offer accommodation, catering, and restaurant services, with rooms that have a minimum size of 8 square meters.
  3. The license is for hotels that offer accommodation, catering and restaurant services, entertaining, or conference rooms. The size of the rooms, in this case, should not be less than 14 square meters.
  4. The license is for hotels that offer accommodation, catering, and restaurant services, and conference and entertainment venues, and whose rooms are bigger than 14 square meters.

For hotels in Thailand with types 3 and 4, entertainment spaces are allowed only if:

  • the venues are located in entertainment areas;
  • the hotel serves food and alcohol
  • the opening hours are after midnight.

The Building License for hotel business in Thailand

At this point, if you want to be eligible for a hotel business license application, you have to first get a building or construction license. Even more, it is issued by an architect or engineer after you submit your application. Moreover, this process may take a while as it requires detailed checks.

On one hand, these consist of: the hotel’s location, its facilities, its dimensions, its type of structure, and whether the building meets the health and safety laws for its guests and also for the environment.

Finally, once this step is completed, you can submit an application to the Provincial Administration Department for hotels in Bangkok or any other local Provincial Governor’s office. In other words, this part of the process may also last up to 6 months. Meanwhile, we can start obtaining other licenses you need for your hotel business, such as:

The Environmental Impact Assessment

Basically, if your hotel is composed of more than 80 rooms, is located in a highly polluted area, and has a small size, you will certainly need an environmental impact assessment. Namely, an authorization that ensures safety for the environment. Nevertheless, if the restaurant of your hotel occupies less than 200 square meters, the owner must notify the local authorities through a notification certificate.
